Religious Canvassers

Sir,—l, too, have been annoyed by canvassers, religious and otherwise, who do all the talking and leave one breathless. Yet I feel that the orthodox churches, which have a real faith based on the Bible, should be more aggressive than they are. I cannot say how. But it is a matter of sharing your faith with many who need it Throughout life’s difficulties, 1 am happy and reassured to know that God is with me.. He is my refuge when things go wrong. He is my strength for heavy tasks. He is my wisdom for making puzzling deci-

sions; my destiny when life is done. These things make life worth while and keep my heart at peace. Naturally I want to share them. Too many many keep ■ all their blessings to themselves,— Yours, etc., HAPPY PILGRIM. October 2, 1964.

Sir, —Unwelcome religious canvassers are easily disposed of. Simply tell them politely that you regard your religion as something entirely private and personal to yourself, that you do not doubt their sincerity or goodwill; but that you. do not intend to discuss these private matters with them. They will usually then retire equally politely. The real mistake, often made out of politeness, is to show some initial interest. Once started, they are difficult to stop.— Yours, etc., NOT TROUBLED.
