SHIP WAS BAR BOUND
His ship had not been stranded on a sand bar at all, said Captain E. C. Craigie, of the m.v; Poranui. He referred to a report in “The Press” yesterday about the Christchurch Lions Club salvaging grapefruit and lemons from a shipment to Christchurch from the Whakatane Lions Club. The report said the Poranui was stranded on the Ohopi sand-bar at Whakatane for 10 days. Captain Craigie said this was incorrect. The Poranui was inside the harbour and could not get out because of the state of the bar. It was bar bound and was not stranded at all, he said.
