ANTARCTIC UNIT
Four Hercules Due The United States Air Force support unit for this season’s American Antarctic programme will arrive in Christchurch within the next two weeks. Four Air Force Hercules will bring about 145 servicemen. The first Hercules is due on October 5 and the last on either October 9 or 11. All the aircraft and men are from the 1501st Air Transport Wing at Travis Air Force Base, California. The Air Force intends to make its first flights to McMurdo Station on October 15.
