TRANSPORT BOARD
Labour Party Policy A thorough investigation and review of all time-tables aimed at a more economic and effective service is promised in the Labour Party’s policy statement for the Christchurch Transport Board. Where new housing areas had been developed a Labour board would undertake to extend the service to those areas, said Mr N. G. Pickering, secretary of the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee, when he announced the policy yesterday.
A Labour board would work in close conjunction with the traffic department of the City Council to endeavour to produce a policy satisfactory to both bodies and to assist in eliminating as far as possible traffic congestion at peak periods, he said. His party believed in having reduced fares for aged beneficiaries and returned servicemen on pensions as a result of war injuries, he said. At all times, a Labour board would be prepared to meet members of the staff from any department to discuss grievances or suggestions, he said.
