CROCODILE ATTACK ON LANDROVER
(N.Z.PJt.-Reuter—Copyright) PORT MORESBY, September 30. A native medical orderly has described in Madang, on New Guinea’s north coast, how a landrover he was driving on a medieaj patrol was attacked by a huge crocodile.
The medical orderly, Martin Kanaura, said the . attack occurred at a river crossing while he was driving between the town of Bogia .and a village named Malolo in Madang district Martin. said a crocodile attacked his vehicle While he was crossing the shallow river ford. It leaped out of deep water when - the vehicle waS halfway across the ford, and smashed into the side of it It then broke the windscreen with its lashing tail. After this Martin said the crocodile got underneath the landrover and attempted to turn it over.
“I was very frightened,” he told administration officials in Madang, “But I stayed in-
side the landrover and did not move.” Martin said the. crocodile after a few more unsuccessful attempts to ovefturn the vehicle with its tail, finally waddled off downstream. Martin then hastily drove his vehicle on to the village.
