2000 TONS A YEAR
Porangahau Bentonite (N.Z. Press Association) WAIPUKURAU, Sept. 29. Bentonite produced at Porangahau was regarded as the best in the world and was fast becoming a valuable industry, Mr E. N. Stoddart, a member of Bentonite, Ltd., told the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce yesterday. The company’s works at Porangahau are the only ones in the country. Production has grown to 2000 tons a year and bentonite is being used by industry on an increasing scale, said Mr Stoddart. A form of clay, bentonite is used in the manufacture of cosmetics, tyres, cement, orchard sprays, and as a lubricate for well drilling.
