‘MUDDLED THINKING’

Department Criticised (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. A claim of “muddled thinking” by the Marine Department was made by Mr N. E. Kirk (Opp., Lyttelton) during the second reading of the Fisheries Amendment Bill in Parliament tonight. Mr Kirk claimed there were weaknesses in the revised whitebait fishing regulations, and said the Marine Department was inefficient in its application of the amended regulations. The Minister of Marine (Mr Scott) replied the revised regulations were a “stop-gap” measure until more concise regulations were drawn up. The bill was read a second time.
