PARKING FOR 100 CARS
Building Site To Be Used Soon Off-street parking for an estimated 100 cars on the Christchurch City Council’s recently-cleared parkingbuilding site in Lichfield street would be made available within a week, said the chairman of the council’s offstreet parking committee (Cr. H. G. Hay) yesterday. A tender for the new building is not expected to be let until after the November meeting of the council, and construction will not begin until after Christmas. Cr. Hay said that the committee, in making its decision to allow parking on the site, was conscious of the heavy demand for parking in the area during the busy Christmas period. It was not possible for the whole of the site to be used for parking because of the depth to which the demolition contractors were required to excavate at some points, he said.
