Surf Team From Japan
Japan is interested in the New Zealand method of patrolling beaches on a voluntary basis, according to advice received by the New Zealand Surf Life-saving Association from the Department of External Affairs. Japan hopes to form surf life-saving clubs and is considering sending a team of swimmers to New Zealand to receive instruction in lifesaving methods and to study the operation of the national association.
The New Zealand council has extended an invitation to the team, subject to it meeting all costs associated with the visit. It is understood that beaches in Japan are not patrolled. Ninety persons lost their lives at surf beaches in Japan during a recent holiday week-end.
