Minor Fires
The Christchurch Fire Brigade was called to three grass fires, a shed fire, and a car fire yesterday. No damage was done by a grass fire on an empty section off Fleming street at 4.9 p.m. New Brighton firemen answered the alarm. Five minutes later. St. Albans firemen were called to a grass fire in an empty section at the back of the City Council yard in Westminster street. The third grass fire was at the back of the Seamen’s Institute, Norwich quay, Lyttelton, at 4.20 p.m. Lyttelton firemen attended.
A 12ft by 6ft shed at the home of Mr R. Furlong, 6 Arthur street, was damaged by fire at 6.18 p.m. Sockburn firemen put out the blaze. Headquarters firemen were called to a car on fire at the corner of Madras and Cashel streets at 5.19 p.m. Petrol leaking from the carburettor started the blaze, which caused only slight damage. The car was driven by Mr C. D. Ardern, of 33 Whitmore street.
