227 ACTIVE OARSMEN
True Strength Not Shown The total active rowing mem bership shown in the report as 227 did not give the true strength of active rowers, said Hr E. R Lindstrom at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association last evening. The figures showed only affiliation strength. Schoolboy rowers not shown in the figures accounted for 83 per cent of active oarsmen in Canterbury. Canterbury differed from some North Wind associations which showed the numbers of schoolboy rowers and paid fid affiliation fee to the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. Here, only club members taking an active part in regattas were affiliated, said the secretary. Mr R J. Shaw The president. Mr B R Walker, said schoolboys paid 5s to the clubs. That entitled them to the use of all plant and provided Instruction. "We are a philanthropic society in many ways, but it's for the good of the sport and that's what we are here for." The meeting decided to rec ommend to the incoming executive that it investigate a better method of showing the true rowing strength of the province. Mr Walker was reelected unanimously to his fifth term as president. Other officers elected were: patron, Mr C. A. Styles: vicepresidents, Messrs A. H. Gould, E. R. Lindstrom, W. G. Richards: secretary-treasurer, Mr Shaw: selectors, Messrs B. G. Knight. Mr Corsbie and Lindstrom: delegates to the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. Messrs Walker, Richards. Lind strom and J. O. Renaut: delegate to the Canterbury Amateur Sports Federation. Mr Walker: delegate to the Sports Medical Association. Mr Lindstrom: delegate to the Estuary Development Committee, Mr Walker
