INVESTMENT IN S.A.
ILK.’s Holdings Important (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, Sept. 29. Britain’s holdings in South Africa were of “overwhelming Importance” in every major investment category, a United Nations report said today. The report said Britain held three-fifths of all foreign investments in South Africa in 1962. the latest year for which figures were available. Britain was the leading creditor country by a wide margin and the United States was "generally a rather distant second.” The document, issued by the Secretariat at the request of the General Assembly’s Special Committee on Apartheid, is expected to be used as a reference work by an export committee set up to study the probable effects of an economic boycott against the republic. Britain and the United States have been the strongest opponents of such an embargo, which has been demanded by many nations.
