QUEENSLAND SUITS WILLIS

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) TULLY (Queensland), Sept. 30. William Willis, the 71-year-old American who recently completed a 10,000-mile drift on a raft across the Pacific from Peru to Australia, said today he may retire in north Queensland.

“This is magnificent country. It looks like I might settle down here for good,’’ he told a reporter.

Willis admitted that he was “marooned.” “I certainly am marooned at the moment, although every day I expect to hear some definite word,” he said. Since September 9, the day his raft, “Age Unlimited,” drifted ashore on a sandy beach near Tully, Willis has been attempting to have the raft transported or towed to Sydney and then home to New York.

“It is just a matter of get-

ting the right offer,” Willis said today. “But so far I have had nothing at all.” He has sought the aid of the Navy, private shipping firms and road transporters, all to no avail. He said he was spending his time sightseeing and standing by his raft.
