TV On T.P.
Sir, —During September, 1963, I paid £B5 deposit on a television set with a Christchurch dealer. The balance owing was £lOB 15s 9d. This I promised to pay to a Christchurch finance firm at £9 on the 10th of each month—l2 payments in all. I have paid a total of £lB4 to this finance firm in 12 months. 1 have not paid on the correct date of the month, which is the 10th. I have still one payment to make to date—the sum >f £9 15s 9d plus a 10s fine for being late. I have just received a letter from this finance firm demanding the final payment (seven days overdue) or they threaten to take my television set. May I add that from August 3 to 15 I received five demand notes from the firm. I believe this is “God’s own country." Who let the devil come into it?—Yours, etc., SKILLED ENGINEER.
September 18, 1964. [The Hire Purchase Association of New Zealand, which was Invited to comment, replied that, as the whole question is still before the Tariff and Development Board, for participants in the inquiry, at least, the matter is sub judice.]
