Drivers Ask For Training
(N.Z. Press Association! AUCKLAND, Sept. 29. Twelve firemen-drivers at the Central Fire Station have asked to be taken off driving, after criticism at an Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board meeting yesterday. They say they want to be kept off driving until the board trains them to the standard it requires. The secretary of the Auckland Fire Brigademen’s Union (Mr L. D. Robertson) said today that the men’s action could immobilise several machines. It was sparked off by the board chairman, Mr S. A. Gleadow, who said some of the drivers did not know the elements of smooth driving and this led to heavy repair bills.
