FISHING-BOAT OWNERS
New Association Formed Commercial fishing-boat owners have recently formed a national organisation—the New Zealand Commercial Fishing Boat Owners* Association. The reason behind the move was that some of the biggest boat owners in the country are wholesalers and ineligible to join the Federation of Commercial Fishermen. As boat owners they did not have a say in the development of the fishing industry from a boat owner point of view, although as wholesalers they were members of the Wholesalers’ Association. The new organisation comprises both commercial fishermen and wholesalers. On the executive committee is Mr J. D. Olsen, of Napier, the Dominion president of the Federation of Commercial Fishermen. The first annual meeting of the association, will be held next March. More Cargo In the 11 months ended August 31, the port of Tauranga handled 865,685 tons of cargo, 96,454. tons more than in the same period last year. Imports, at 366,545 tons, showed ah increase of 7235 tons. Exports, at 499,140 tons, were 89,220 tons above last year.—(P.A.)
