Only Pacer To Qualify
Sir Charles was the only horse to qualify at trials held yesterday at Methven by the Mid-Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association.
Sir Charles sprinted away from his rivals in the back straight and completed the 12 furlongs in the smart time of 3min 24 3-ssec. He was more than 13 seconds in front of his nearest rival, which almost walked across the line. Sir Charles, which is trained by his part-owner, A. M. Richards, was driven by M. Holmes. He is. a three-year-old brother to the good winner, Lady Charles. The first heat was won by Ali Baba in 3min 32 3-ssec, and Shadydale won the third heat in 3min 33 3-ssec, well outside the required 3min 28sec.
