ACTION ON TESTS
“Time Running Short” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept 28. The president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner) will be representing both the federation and the Australian Council of Trade Unions as titular delegate to the executive board and finance committee meeting of the 107-nation International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. He is an executive board member of the organisation which represents 52 million workers. “I will be making strong representations on behalf of ourselves and the Australians for action against the French Pacific tests and also for world disarmament,” said Mr Skinner. “As for the French tests, time is running short. If we don't act now it could be too late.” Mr Skinner said he thought pressure could be brought to bear on the French Government and President de Gaulle through the French and other trade union movements.
