Constitutional Amendment

The United States Senate yesterday approved a constitutional amendment that would let the President appoint a new Vice-President if this office becomes vacant Had the amendment been in effect last November, Pre: sident Johnson could have appointed a new Vice-Presi-dent, subject to his confirmation by Congress, after President Kennedy’s assassination.
