C.L.T.A. PRESIDENT -Mr A. C. Felton

THE inauguration of Tennis Week by the Canterbury Lawn T ennis Association is an attempt to attract players to a game that can offer many rewards to its participants. Skill and exercise are necessary for . the

best enjoyment of the game and social life and friendship are by-products of good club tennis. It is hoped a number of people will take the opportunity to join a city or country tennis club. There are approximately 30 affiliated clubs in Christchurch and another 50 in the Canterbury country area. New members are needed in all to sustain interest in the game. This is an opportunity for parents to encourage members of their families to join a club and also for those who have neglected their opportunities of playing to obtain coaching, so they can get the greatest enjoyment from the game. It is hoped many players who for some reason have dropped out will be encouraged to return to active participation in the sport again. Tennis is played on a court which good judges have said is perfect in its proportions, and the method of scoring has stood the test of the last 80 years without variation. Undoubtedly the game offers to all players a wonderful return for the effort put into it. I have every confidence in the success of Tenhis Week.
