SOCCER XI’s OPPONENTS

Victoria And Tasmania

The Canterbury under 18 team, representing New Zealand as winner of the Junior National Cup, will play in Group B in the Australian inter-State youth tournament at Adelaide from October 912. Details of the tournament have now been received by the team’s manager, Mr R. Storer, from the South Australian Soccer Federation. Included in the same group as Canterbury are Victoria and Tasmania. Canterbury’s first match will be against Victoria at 9.20 p.m. on the evening of Friday, October 9, and the following morning it meets Tasmania. If Canterbury wins its group—-Victoria will be the stiffest hurdle—on Saturday evening it will play the winner of Group A, which comprises the State under 19 teams of New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland. Its final match would be on Monday morning against the winner of Group C, coming from Northern New South Wales, South Australia and A.C.T. Each match will be 35 minutes each half and if necessary the groups will be decided on goal average. The final will determine the Australian youth soccer champions for 1964, for which a trophy will be presented. Pennants will be given to each participating team.
