TROTTING Bellajily And King Gypsy For Greymouth

Bellajily and King Gypsy could form the successful double combination at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s spring meeting at X ictona Park tomorrow night.

Bellajily will meet an even field in the first leg, the Spring andieap, but King Gypsy should not find the opposition very strong in the second leg, the West Coast Challenge Stakes.

Bellajily, the winner I of the New Zealand Derby Stakes last November, finished tenth in the Four-year-old Stakes on the first day of the national meeting last month at her lone start for the season. Bellajily was forced three wide at the seven furlongs{ find she was not persevered j with when she began to tire! with two furlongs left. This 1 field does not look to be near-1 ly as strong as that she encountered at Addington and! with reasonable luck she should just about win. Most opposition to Bellajily] might come from Bonvar and | Tunnel Road. Bonvar was I placed twice at the recent Hutt Park meeting, including a second to the promising Quesnel. That effort alone was a worthwhile one and if he races as well again, he

should be the hardest to beat. Tunnel Road followed up a fifth in the Four-year-old Stakes at the national meeting with a win over Heriot in the Introductory Handicap last Saturday. Tunnel Road is usually most reliable and he is capable of being prominently placed all the way. Megaton, Morano Star and the backmarker, Silver Mica, have paced splendid races this season and all three should be capable of adding interest to the finish.

I King Gypsy stands out in: the second leg. He was fourth i in a close finish on the second night of the national j meeting and last Saturday he beat all but the speedy Julie j Hanover in the New Brightonl Stakes. He should be close to I his peak after those two races j and he should be too speedy ; for most in this race. I Michael shaped like an improver when he finished third i to Julie Hanover and King: Gypsy at the New Brighton j

! meeting last week. Michael is {certain to be a better horse now, but he might find King i Gypsy a shade too good. i Efficient finished fifth in Julie Hanover’s race at the | New Brighton meeting. The {distance of the Greymouth 'race is one furlong shorter, {which could enhance his prospects. A win for any of the others would be a big surprise, and the pick of them could be Syncom, which showed ability at times last season.
