GISBORNE, Sept. 9. The Poverty Bay Turf Club’s spring meeting at Makaraka today was held in fine weather, with a cool southerly breeze. The attendance was fairly large for a mid-week fixture. He nar rowly won the six furlong Nicks Head Handicap carrying 8-7 and in spite of extra poundage went on to win the seven furlong handicap by a neck in a stirring finish The totalisaior on-course handled £33,846 10s, compared with £32,829 10s last year.
