Recognition Bribe

The Malawi Prime Minister, Dr. Banda, told Parliament yesterday the Chinese Embassy in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanganyika, was behind a conspiracy ' against him involving ministers who were dismissed or resigned this week. Dr. Banda said the embassy offered him a loan of £lB million if Malawi recognised the Peking regime. At the end of his speech the House rose to its feet, clapping, stamping and singing, “Zamuzu (Dr. Banda) is the lion of Malawi.”
