NEW TELEPHONE NUMBERS
Police Appeal To Business Firms The police in Christchurch had been greatly affected by the recent change in telephone numbers, said Superintendent F. W. Le Fort, of the Central Police Station, yesterday. Some years ago, details were laboriously collected from, all businesses in the city and suburban areas so that the management of every firm could be quickly called if an emergency occurred outside ordinary business hours. “Since the change in the telephone system last week, the police have begun the gigantic task of revising all their records,” Mr Le Fort said. “The records embody not only the firms’ telephone numbers but also the afterhour numbers through which each firm can be called. “Business firms could greatly assist the police by sending written particulars of any change in telephone numbers and also of any changes of staff for after-hours calls,” Mr Le Fort said.
