TROTTING Promising Pacer Sold To Sydney Trainer

The promising three-year-old pacer, Wise Guy, has been sold at a four-figure price by his Templeton owner-trainer, J. S. Dalgety, to the Sydney trainer, A. Phillis, who has made a big number of purchases in New Zealand in recent weeks.

Wise Guy was one of the early favourites for the New Brighton Stakes last Saturday, but when the sale was completed he was withdrawn. He showed great promise when at his first race start he finished third to Waiuku and Julie Hanover in the Canterbury Stakes on the second night of the national meeting at Addington Raceway last month.

Wise Guy is a gelding by Fallacy from Santaloma, tracing back to the imported mare, Nulgeria. He is a half-brother to Kentucky Boy, a winner last season.

Wise Guy is one of another fairly large shipment of stan-dard-bred horses booked for Australia. King Clovis is one of three horses being shipped by Mr I. Langford, of Oxford, and the Sydney trainer, W. Picken. King Clovis, which graduated to a 2.15 assessment, showed useful form at times. A six-year-old gelding by Meadow Chief from Globe Girl, he was trained at Rangiora by F. Murfitt. His last win was at the final meeting run on the New Brighton course last September when he beat Soanfra in the Alex. McDonald Handicap. A two-year-old gelding by Garrison Hanover from Grattanello is a brother to Craig Garrison, the top-ranked two-year-old pacer in Sydney last season. A two-year-old by Garrison Hanover from Globe Girl is a half-brother to King Clovis. Ticklish, a three-year-old gelding by First Lord from Kittle, an unraced half-sister to Gay Baron and Rapine, has been sold by Mrs M. E. Holmes, of Oxford. This youngster was passed in at 70 guineas when offered on behalf of Mr J. M. Connolly, of Geraldine, at the 1963 yearling sales. Subsequently he was purchased for 75 guineas by Mrs Holmes. The brood mares Scottish Hanover, Rusticate and Silver Lace are being sent to Sydney on behalf of. Mr Connolly,, as also is a three-year-old colt by Stormyway from Thelma Globe. This colt is a brother to Blazing Globe, the

leading pacer in Sydney today, and to the promising Don Caesar. A six-year-old mare by Meadow Chief from Lady Goodwood is being sent to Mr L. W. Wise, of the Carlton Stud, Sydney. Belroy has - been sold by his Tinwald trainer, J. Grice, to Mr E. Thomas, of Melbourne and he completes the shipment. Belroy, a six-year-old gelding by Stormyway from Rosebeam, has not raced since the 1962-63 season when he had only two unplaced starts. Belroy made an auspicious start to racing when he won the Two-year-old Stakes at Methven, beating Rembrandt. Later he was second to Lordship in the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes. He won the Canterbury Challenge Stakes the following season, beating Southern Cross and Lordship. Later he was runner-up to Lordship in the New Zealand Derby Stakes. His racing since then has been greatly restricted. Reefton Club Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Reefton Trotting Club were: President, Mr A. Archer; vicepresident, Mr T. N. Young; executive, Messrs J. T. Nicholls, H. J. Wood, S. W. Archer, G. J. Murtha, M. A. Rosanowski; committee, Messrs A. B. Archer, R. Irving, W. Lockington, K. W. McCann, J. S. O’Malley, C. J. Lagner, D. O’Sullivan. First Start Strafe will have her first race start in the West Coast Challenge Stakes, the second leg bf the double at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday night. Strafe, a member of R. Belcher’s

Yaldhurst team, is a three-year-old filly by Aksarbep from Lady Moness. She is a sister to a speedy but unreliable pacer in Flak.. Place Prospect Rocky Star will be a sound place prospect in. the Grey Lynn Handicap- at .Alexandra Park Raceway on Saturday night. He finished a good third to Password and Paranova on the first night of the recent Hutt Park meeting, but was not at ease in the going on the second night and could do no better than fifth. Rocky Star is a lot better than his record suggests and he could be in for a good season. Fine Record Master Alan has now won £14,870 for his Tokarahi owners, C. M. and G. R. Hore. The son of Masterpiece and Ellenella has had 97 starts for 15 wins and 34 placings- He should extend his record at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting, which opens on Saturday. He is the backmarker on 24 yards in the September Handicap, the first leg of the double. Two starts ago Master Alan beat Lordship in the Roydon Lodge Free-for-all at Hutt Park. On the second night he was a shade disappointing when sixth under invitation conditions. Retired Blue Prince has broken down again and, according to his Auckland owner, Mr H. S. Berry, he will not be persevered with as a racing proposition. He will serve a few mares on Mr Barry’s property at Papatoetoe and, next year, will take up stud duty in New South Wales. Blue Prince, an eight-year-old by Hal Tryax from Princess Sheila, has suffered from unsoundness throughout his career. In spite of that he compiled an outstanding record. He won 13 races and was third to Lordship and Falsehood in the 1962 New Zealand Cup. He won the Ollivier Handicap at the same meeting.
