Falsehood Retired In America
(New Zealand Press Association)
GREYMOUTH, September 7. The top flight New Zealand pacer, Falsehood, has been retired from racing in America after a brilliant but ill-starred career. His ability took him to the United States, where he met continued misfortune which led to his retirement there.
Falsehood’s Greymouth owner, Mr J. Steel, said today that the Fallacy gelding had broken down in a leg and had not been able to race this season. He may be shipped home to spend Ms retirement in New Zealand, but this depends largely on the condition of his leg. Falsehood went to America early last year to compete in the international pacing series at New York, but got to the races there on only four occasions.
He started in the first leg of the 1963 series, and ran a meritorious fourth. However, he contracted a virus which prevented Mm from starting again. After shaking off the virus, Falsehood had three starts for one fourth before breaking down. He was given a lengthy spell and brought in for the new season’s racing. However, Ms leg has failed to stand up. In New Zealand Falsehood had 83 races for 18 wins, 11 seconds, 11 thirds and seven fourths, and £16,265 in stakes.
