TASMAN TRADE
Possibility Of Union (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH, Sept. 7. The political federation of Australia and New Zealand would be a pipe dreain, but free trade between the two was a possibility, the New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr J. L. Hazlett, said today. Politicians, statesmen and businessmen on both sides of the Tasman were now working towards the free trade ideal, and their governments were studying a first report, Mr Hazlett said. New Zealanders were very conscious of their part in world affairs, he said. “Our security interests must always be parallel, but that is no reason for a political federation. “In matters of security in the past our governments have remained separate entities but the two voices have been in concert,” he said. Few people in New Zealand were thinking about changing this, Mr Hazlett added.
