TAX RELIEF OFFERED

Pensioners’ Certificates

Age beneficiaries who undertake employment on a parttime basis or for short periods of the year often have more tax deducted than is required, says, the Inland Revenue Department. Because of this the age beneficiaries are denied the use of this money until after the end of the income year when a return is made and the tax adjusted. To assist persons in these circumstances, the department will issue a special tax code cep tifieate on application.

The use of such a certificate has the effect of reducing the amount of tax deducted each pay period so as to produce the approximate amount that would be payable if the income was earned evenly over the year. Persons wishing to avail themselves of this scheme should call at the nearest tax office where full Information will be given.

County Town.—Edgecumbe, with a population of 1320, the servicing centre of the rich Rangitaiki plains has been declared a county town by the Whakatane County Council.—(P.A.)
