FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression centred east of the North Island is moving slowly eastwards; an anti-cyclone lies over the Western Tasman sea, with a ridge to the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate southerlies on coast at first; winds otherwise mainly light and variable; a few scattered coastal showers, but mainly fine; temperatures cold. Kaikoura Coast and Marlborough Sounds.— Fresh to strong southerlies; variable skies; but fair periods increasing; cold.
