WATER IN DUNEDIN
Fluoridation Inquiry (N.Z. Presa Aaaoctation) DUNEDIN, August 31. The Dunedin City Council's water and baths committee decided today to call for further information on the fluoridation of municipal water supplies. Its chairman. Or. J. F. Ross, said this step did not necessarily herald a new attempt to introduce fluoride into Dunedin’s water. “We feel that as many people have strong feelings on the matter we ought to have the most up-to-date information on the subject,” he said. In 1958 the Dunedin City Council came out in favour of fluoridation, but in a referendum the fallowing year the citizens voted 15,157 to 8872 against lit Since then several New Zealand municipalities have introduced fluoride into the supply. Among them is Hutt Valley, which survived an attempt to have the Privy Council in Britain rule against the step.
