Ashburton Schools (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, September 1. A formula for the amalgamation 'of Ashburton High School and Hakatere College will probably be worked out by the boards of C.e two schools in consultation with the regional superintendent of education (Mr S. S. P. Hamilton) and other officers of the department.
The boards discussed the proposal after a meeting in Ashburton on July 22, during which the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) explained the position.
Both boards had closed meetings on a later night, as suggested by Mr Kinsella, and forwarded their decisions to him. It is believed that as well as agreeing in principle to the amalgamation, both boards made some similar proposals. A high educational authority said today that a measure of agreement had been reached, and that it should not be difficult to work out an acceptable solution.
