ELECT BY POST
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter)
WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. Many experts in electoral matters now thought New Zealand had gone far enough, if not too far, in making special votes available for persons absent from their electorates, said the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) tonight.
Replying to Mr S; A. Whitehead (Opp., Nelson) in the debate on the
Justice Department Estimmates, Mr Hanan said: "Postal special votes have reached such proportions that one might think, if the system is sound, of having the whole election by postal vote.” Mr Whitehead asked that arrangements be made for persons expecting to be outside their electorates to register their votes before they went away.
