RUGBY PARK DECLINED
Under 20 And Schools Game A request for the use of Rugby Park on September 26 for a match between a team selected from the Christchurch secondary schools and an under 20 team was declined by a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. A letter from the coach of the Christchurch Boys’ High School (Mr G. Slatter) said that gate receipts from the match would go towards the building of a stand at the school ground. Mr R. W. Thomas said that Rugby Park was not available on September 26 and suggested that the ground could be made available during.the week.
Mr J. Storey said that the match, if played on September 26, would be a counterattraction to the Buller-Can-terbury match, which' would be unlikely to draw a large crowd in any case. Father O’Brien (secondary schools representative) said that he had not been told anything about the match so he could not say if the schools were behind the game. Mr H. C. Blazey said that the committee should support the match. It would be a good attraction and also would encourage promising players. After further discussion it was decided to approve the playing of the game but not at Rugby Park.
