Table Tennis Teagle Shield Won By Canterbury
The Canterbury women’s table tennis team won the Teagle Shield when it beat Hutt Valiev in the final of the inter-association teams’ contest in Cowles Stadium last night.
This is the second time the provincial women’? team has won the trophy. IU first success was in 1958, in Wellington. .... Canterbury beat the titleholder, Northland, in the semi-finals in a contest where all matches and games were even; Canterbury was declared the winner on points. Miss F. Inglis and Mrs P. M. Purdon gave very determined displays to win two singles each but Mr? T. May had an unexpected loss to the hard-hitting Mrs L. Hutt. Miss J. Brown gave her best for Hutt Valley, winning her three singles in straight games. , ... Wellington retained the men'? Kean Shield by beating Auckland, 10-2.. While M. L. Dunn gave a brilliant display of power attack, R. L. Foster and D. T. Thorner gained hard earned wins against G. J, Jennings and G. V. Wilkinson. Results:— KHAN SHIELD Northland S, Auckland T G. A.
