Taxi Goodwill
Sir, —C. Fitzgerald has written much and said little in his five-point contribution. Nothing concerning goodwill was rectified by the issue of licences over two years ago. The sale of a licence recently which brought criticism from the authority was in fact one of these. Financiers’ fingers are seldom burnt, but those of their clients can be, and someone surely would be if prices were fixed in a business involving several millions of pounds in investment. A non-transferable licence! Surely a person who has served a delicate public diligently for a number of years is entitled to his reward, unfettered by . severe regulations and unreasonable condition, the taxi industry above all. Without doubt, the values in question are due to a steadily increasing population, resulting in a good turnover in a cash-and-delivery business.— Yours, etc., RODGER. September 1, 1964.
