7 BIRDIES IN 18
The Kaiapoi golfer, J. E. Monk, was in brilliant form last Sunday, in beating his brother, T. Monk, to retain the club’s senior champion* ship title. J. E. Monk won the 36-hole final by the decisive margin of seven and five, yet his brother, with every justification, could be regarded as a little unfortunate. T. Monk completed the morning round in 73—one over par—and was six down. After 27 holes he had regained a stroke, was back to scratch and still six behind. His brother started in the morning with three birdies in the first four holes, and his round of 67 equalled the unofficial course record held by himself, and several other prominent golfers, including D. L. Woon. J. E. Monk had seven birdies in his morning round, with halves of 34 and 33. When the match finished he was still four under the card, having completed 31 holes. Hi s brother again played par golf in the afternoon but never seemed likely to make any impression.
