SWEDEN BEATEN

Aust. Meets U.S. Next (N.Z. Press Association) BAASTAD (Sweden), August 30. Australia today defeated Sweden in the Davis Cup inter-zone final when Roy Emerson and Fred Stolle took only 44 minutes to win the doubles for a winning 3-0 lead. Emerson and Stolle overwhelmed Jan-Erik Lundqvist and Ulf Schmidt 6-2, 6-1, 6-0. The Australians had yesterday taken the first two singles matches. The final two singles will be played tomorrow but will have no bearing on the result. Australia now meets the United States in the challenge round in Cleveland, Ohio, late next month. Emerson and Stolle were the last-minute choice to play the doubles today. The Australian captain, Harry Hopman, discarded his nominated team of Tony Roche and John Newcombe for the more experienced pair 90 minutes before play started.
