(N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, Aug. 31. Mrs Clare Booth Luce, a supporter of the Republican presidential nominee. Senator Barry Goldwater, announced yesterday that she would withdraw as a candidate for the Conservative Party nomination as senator from New York The announcement by Mrs Luce a few weeks ago that she was willing to run for the Senate seat as the Conservative Party nominee was criticised by many prominent Republicans, who maintained it would draw votes from Senator Kenneth Keating, the Republican incumbent Senator Keating refused to endorse Senator Goldwater. He said he would campaign independently for re-election.
