AUCKLAND TV GROUP

First Production Started Television Workshop, Auckland has started work on its first production, a 20-minute film called “The Punter,” written by their production supervisor, James Wallace with John Monteith. “The Punter” is not intended for general release. The purpose of filming it is to familiarise workshop members with the problems and techniques of film production before undertaking more ambitious projects. The film has a simple plot. Ah average New Zealand “bloke,” played by Harold Kissin, has a bad day at the races and returns home to find that his wife has picked several winners—with a pin. Filming began at a recent race meeting at Ellerslie. When work on “The Punter” is finished, the work? shop plans to’ produce features and documentaries for local television and, it hopes, for overseas programmes as well. Its first documentary will be about the Totalisator Agency Board.
