Death Of Sir J. Hammond (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, August 29.. One of the world’s lead* ing agricultural scientists, Sir John. Hammond, died recently in Cambridge. He was 75. A fellow of the Royal Society and an honorary fellow of Downing College, Cambridge, Sir John Hammond was known as one of the world’s leading authorities on animal physiology. His book “Reproduction of the Cow,” published in 1927, is still regarded as a classic exposition on the subject. He was the pioneer of artificial insemination of cattle and his experiments gave Britain more and better dairy cattle and produce.
Sir John Hammond served on the livestock committee of the post-war Allied rehabilitation council and the United Nations Refugee and Rehabilitation Agency, and later. on the meat boards. of New Zealand and Australia and the Southern Rhodesia advisory committee.
