Ruddiman Cup Back
Canterbury regained the Ruddiman Cup for under 20 representatives for the first time since 1981 but only after a poor match highlighted by missed opportunities in the first half by Canterbury, and disputed or disallowed goals. Canterbury won, 4-2, only drawing ahead in the last five minutes. E Breero (centre-forward) scored for Canterbury in the ninth minute and this was the only goal in the first half. After four minutes of the second half, G. McLean was awarded the equaliser after the referee consulted a linesman, but R. Lili put Canterbury back into the lead after a weaving run had carried him past three or four Otago defenders. From a free kick a minute later. Price scored Otago's second goal. With five minutes to go W. Blows chipped over the diving Otago goalie to give Canterbury a 3-2 lead and shortly afterwards, Lili completed the scoring. Referee: Mr J. G. Goprlie.
