N.Z. Wins Over Australians
(N.Z. Press Association! TAURANGA. Aug. 30. The Tauranga Domain track was too dead yesterday for any outstanding times to be recorded by an impressive lineup of athletes, including Australian as well as New Zealand aspirants for Olympic Games honours at Tokyo, competing in events at the Tauranga Highland Games. Highlights of the athletic events were the win of A. G. Pyne (Canterbury), the rejected Olympic nominee, over A. B. Magee in the 5000 metres, N. I. Scott's win in the mile over the Australian, A. Thomas, and W. D. Baillie’s victory over D. Power (Australia) In the 10.000 metres. Both P. G. Snell and M. G. Halberg withdrew because of muscle injuries, the former from the mile and the latter from the 5000 metres. The New Zealand sheaf tossing championship was won by R. B. Keightley (Tauranga), with 36ft lin. K. Mohring (Te Aroha) won the caber tossing championship with 33ft lOin. Results of the main athletics eV M?Ie S —N r °i. Scott (Auckland). 1; A.
