Decrease Tyre Wear
To obtain the highest possible mileage from your car tyres you should make sure that they are always inflated at the correct pressure and that the wheels of the car are properly balanced and aligned. You should also drive carefully. A wise driver Will always protect his tyres by slowing down when he sees a hole ahead of him he cannot safely avoid. Car owners who constantly bump against the edges of kerbs or drive fast into potholes with sharp edges can do serious damage to their tyres by weakening or breaking the cords. Consistently heavy braking and sudden acceleration cause wasteful wear on the treads, particularly in hot weather when the treads are more vulnerable to structural damage than at other times. Unnecessarily fast cornering will also cause excessive wear. Tyres should be interchanged diagonally between the front and rear wheels about every 5000 miles and one of them should be replaced with the spare tyre. The wearing patterns on the front and rear tyres differ. It they are equalised by regular interchanges the treads will last longer.
