SPONSORED MEETING

Strong Fields At Addington Splendid fields, including a number of horses which raced with distinction at the recent national meeting, are down to race at the Christchurch Trotting Club's sponsored meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow. An eight-race programme will be decided, with the first event timed for 1 p.m. Most interest will centre in the First Wills Handicap and the Second Wills Handicap, which will be run at 3 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. Both races will be run under free-for-all conditions over 13 furlongs. Both fields include a number of horses with engagements at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting on September 5. Trophies valued at £35 will be attached to seven races, with the Three Castles Handicap, for trotters, carrying trophies valued at £5O.

The great New Zealand-bred pacer, Cardigan Bay, has been made 2/1 favourite for the 25.000-dollar April Star Pace, to be run on Friday night, after the withdrawal of Overtrick from the race. Henry T. Adios, which has beaten Cardigan Bay twice, and Meadow Skipper, holder of the world one-mile record in a race in which he beat Overtrick, are the second choices at 3/1. Cardigan Bay will start from barrier 5 and Henry T. Adios from barrier 4. Cardigan Bay will be driven by his trainer-driver, Stanley Dancer. Henry T. Adios by Del Insko, and Meadow Skipper by the 70-year-old Earle Avery. Other entries in the six horse field are Country Don, of Canada, Rusty Range and Adora's Dream.
