RICHARDSON LEADS WAY
Aust. Bowling Flogged (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) CANTERBURY, August 27. Brilliant batting by P. E. Richardson, who celebrated his return to the side with a sparkling century, and by M. C. Cowdrey, who produced an effortless and faultless 90, enabled Kent to declare at 346 for six against Australia. At the close the tourists were 14 for no wicket. The Australian bowling was flogged to all parts of the ground as Kent, with Richardson leading the way, scored at more than a run-a-minute to reach 264 for two by tea. Richardson failed by only six runs to complete a hundred before lunch, and shared an opening stand of 164 with E. Fillary. Scores: KENT First Innings P E. Richardson, lbw b Hawke . 111 E W. .1.
