NEW SUKARNO CABINET

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, August 27. President Sukarno today introduced a Communist into his Cabinet for the first time when he announced a major Cabinet reshuffle.

He brought in Mr Njoto, DeputyChairman of the Communist Party, as Minister attached to the Presidium. Altogether the President made 12 changes in his Cabinet.

This was the first time that Indonesia has achieved in fact a “Nasakom” Cabinet consisting of members of the three major forces the Nationalists, religious groups and Communists. The Nasakom Cabinet has been supported by President Sukarno for some time but until today the Communists have not been able to gain representation in the inner circle of Indonesian politics. Observers in Djakarta said it was debatable whether the Communists would really exercise any greater influence with this Cabinet representation since the Cabinet is responsible to President. Sukarno who determines policy. Other Changes

Other changes announced by President Sukarno were: Mr Ipik Gandamana, the Home Affairs Minister, is replaced by Major-Gen-eral Sumarno, the Governor of Djakarta. Mr Gandamana becomes the Rural Development Minister.

Dr. Kadarusmn, the AttorneyGeneral, is replaced by Colonel Sutardio, an army officer.

Mr Ahem Erningpradja, the Labour Minister, is replaced by Mr Sutomo, who was formerly Mr Etningpradjo’s deputy. Major-General Sambas Atmadinata, the Veterans Minister, is replaced by Major-General Sarmini, an army officer. Major-General Achmadl, the Transmigration and Cooperatives Minister, is replaced by Mr Achadi. Major-General Achmadi becomes the new Information Minister, replacing Dr. Ruslan Abdulgani, who still retains his other post as co-ordination Minister of the People’s Relations Compartment. (Indonesia’s practice is to appoint a “co-ordinator Minister” at the head of each compartment in the Cabinet which in turn contains several Ministers). Professor Prijono, the Basic Education and Culture Minister, is replaced by Mrs Artati Amarzuki, a former Indonesian United •Nations official. ’
