LOWER FARE FROM U.K.
More Migrants Likely (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 26. Increasing numbers of assisted immigrants are likely to fly to New Zealand from Britain because of a reduction in their air fares to £l5O. The normal economy class fare is £253. The fare has been set after an agreement signed between Tasman Empire Airways and the British Overseas Airways Corporation. 8.0.A.C. will fly to Sydney after accepting them on a “filler load” basis, and T.E.A.L. will bring them to New Zealand.
The assistant Secretary of Labour (Mr H. Parsonage) said today the air fare was comparable with the sea fare. It could be slightly higher if the migrant was carrying excess luggage. Although more migrants would not come by air than by sea, the over-all recruitment target would not be affected.
