ALL-NIGHT SITTING
Savings Bills Debate (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 26. Opposition amendments and frequent divisions continued in Parliament tonight as the committee stages of the Private Savings Banks Bill trundled on. The Government has taken urgency at this stage of the bill’s consideration and also on the committee stages of the Trustee Savings Banks Amendment Bill. It hopes to pass both bills before the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) leaves tomorrow for a meeting of Commonwealth Finance Ministers in Kuala Lumpur. At 10 p.m. the House had reached clause seven of the 24-clause Private Savings Bank Bill. It was expected the House would sit most of the night.
