Statement Doubted
(N.Z. Press Association! DUNEDIN, Aug. 26. The secretary of the OtagoSouthland Labourers Union (Mr L. B. Swan) said tonight he was “unable to believe” a statement that full coverage of all 140 men at the West Arm access tunnel had been vested in the New Zealand Workers’ Union. “Of the 147 meh there, 17 are foremen and only 70 are labourers,” he said. “The remainder are drivers, electricians, engineers, boilermakers. storemen and hotel workers. “The Court of Arbitration recently gave us an award, with no other -union as an interested party. “What Mr Dempster has assumed is opposite to what is stated in the latest Labourers’ Award, and until such time as I hear from Mr Skinner I am unable to believe any such statement has been made to Mr Allen,” said Mr Swan.
